About

Autoknowtive is a free game for people who can name a car from a glimpse of a tail light. One car a day, six guesses, and a garage full of everything you’ve spotted.

It’s an independent project made by a car enthusiast, not a company. There are no accounts or sign-ups, and it’s kept free by a few ads.

Ways to play

Daily: everyone gets one car a day. Name the make and model, then the year, in six guesses.
Free Play: the Daily, as many times as you like.
Road Trip: every game mixed into one run. Keep driving until the tank runs dry.
Quick Play: pick one game, such as Spot It, Cockpit, Model Year or Higher or Lower, and chase your best over ten rounds.
Garage: every car you’ve identified, plus the whole catalog to study.

The full rules are in How to play (the ? button at the top of the game).

The cars

The catalog covers thousands of cars from more than 100 brands, from everyday hatchbacks to hypercars. Every photo is checked to make sure it shows that exact car, and model answers always use the badge you can see, so you never have to guess an engine option from the outside.

Autoknowtive isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by any carmaker. Brand names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify the cars.

FAQ

When does the new Daily car arrive?

At midnight US Central time, every day. If you started yesterday’s car before midnight, you can still finish it.

Why did my friend get a different car at the weekend?

On weekdays everyone gets the same car, one sold worldwide. At weekends the Daily picks a car sold in your region, which you can change in Settings.

Where is my progress saved?

In this browser only. Your streaks, scores and Garage stay on this device, so clearing your browser data, using private browsing or switching devices starts you fresh.

Can I make it easier on the eyes?

Yes. Settings has colour-blind friendly tiles, reduced motion and metric or US units.

I think an answer, photo or spec is wrong.

It happens with thousands of cars. Tell us which one and we’ll fix it.

Is it free?

Completely. Ads cover the running costs. See the privacy policy for how they work and how to opt out of personalised ads.

Can I play offline or install it?

You can add Autoknowtive to your home screen from your browser’s share or install menu. You need a connection to play, though, because the Daily is checked on our server.
